§ 2-96. Established; membership; term; vacancies; removal.

  • (a)

    Under the provisions of O.C.G.A. § 36-64-4, a joint city-county recreation commission was established and provided for by the city concurrent with the action of the commissioner of roads and revenues of the county.

    (b)

    The joint commission shall be a board of nine (9) persons serving without pay, five (5) of whom shall be appointed by the county and four (4) of whom shall be appointed by the city.

    (c)

    The initial term of the commissioners appointed by the city shall be as follows: Post 1 shall expire July 13, 2015, Post 2 shall expire July 13, 2016, Post 3 shall expire July 13, 2017 and Post 4 shall expire July 13, 2018. Thereafter, the term of office of such commissioners appointed shall be for five (5) years.

    (d)

    Vacancies in the commission occurring otherwise then by expiration of terms shall be filled by another appointment for the unexpired term of that member either by the county or the city.

    (e)

    Any member of the recreation commission can be removed by majority vote of the city commission. Absence from two (2) meetings within a calendar year without justification may be cause for removal from the commission.
